Star of the Seas℠ isn’t just another cruise ship — it’s an extraordinary addition to the boundary-busting amenities and technological innovation that you’ve come to expect from Royal Caribbean®.
And now, as the latest addition to the record-setting Icon Class and one of the newest cruise ships in 2025, the best family cruise ship to ever hit the ocean is bringing even bigger thrills and more epic ways to chill for every guest.
With the “Star of the Seas Insider” video series, Royal Caribbean takes you behind the scenes on the Star of the Seas construction process, covering everything from the cruise ship design to the ship’s transatlantic journey from Turku, Finland, where it’s being constructed, to its home port, Port Canaveral.
As the Royal Caribbean brand’s newest state-of-the-art cruise ship, Star of the Seas is already poised to continue shattering records and redefining what a family vacation can be.
What bold ideas go into creating a sequel to the largest cruise ship in the world? In our first episode of Star of the Seas Insider, Jennifer Goswami, Senior Director of Product Development at Royal Caribbean, broke down the major differences between Icon of the Seas℠ and Star of the Seas for vacationers who can’t decide which of the Icon Class ships is best for their getaway.
“Icon [Class] really is the world’s best family vacation,” Goswami said. “We have a waterpark, we have a pool for every day of the week, Broadway shows. We have specialty dining, and the one thing you can’t get on any other [type of] vacation,” she continued, “Star, Icon, any of our ships can bring you anywhere in the world.”
In the past year, Royal Caribbean has received surveys from guests to learn what vacationers truly want from their next great adventure. And for Goswami, the biggest difference between the two is the added amenities for kids and teens on Star of the Seas.
“Star will have quite a few new things,” Goswami said. “We really wanted to focus on youth and family, so we redesigned our entire Playscape℠. We added some fun to Splashaway Bay℠, we redesigned Adventure Ocean® and gave Teens [spaces] a full refresh.”
And when it comes to building the world’s biggest and boldest cruise ships, Goswami said her team is committed to one thing — constantly reimagining what is possible in an endless pursuit to design the best cruise ships in the world.
