The ill-fated hero flew too close to the sun before his wax-laden wings melted away, plummeting him into a free fall from dizzying heights. Crowned by the 145ft “The Fall” drop slide, which brings riders to speeds of up to 30mph along its 780 feet of thrill, four additional AquaTubes twist and swing riders into an imaginative Icarus-like swirl through the heavens down to an exhilarating watery finale.

Thrillagascar and Jungle Jammer, 142ft — DreamWorks Water Park in East Rutherford, NJ

These two dueling droppers offer breathtaking views of the 40-attraction-strong waterpark below. Then, it literally takes riders’ breath away thanks to the world’s tallest trapdoor drop, which sends sliders plummeting 14 stories from their capsule into a pink and orange race to the finish. Regardless of the result, both riders surely deserve bragging rights after these twin water slides.

Daredevil’s Peak, 135ft — Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas

You’ll be ready to chill after the thrill of this single-rider water slide at Perfect Day at CocoCay. It sends brave riders along 764 feet of aqualucent tubing in a 35-second heart-racing adventure of unexpected turns, twists and drops around the aptly-named Daredevils’ Tower until finally releasing its brave craver into a water-drenched exit.

Ko’okiri Body Plunge, 125ft — Volcano Bay at Universal Studios, Orlando, FL 

This 70-degree-angle slide feels nearly vertical. The drop chamber at the top of the 125ft high Krakatau releases you through the depths of the dramatic volcano park centerpiece in a gasp-worthy eruption into the pool below. Even the line offers excitement as it winds through the waterfall to the music of the water slides’ screamers.

Kala and Tai Nui, 125ft — Volcano Bay at Universal Studios, Orlando, FL 

Some people are scared of snakes, but what they should really fear are these two serpentine twisting body slides meant to represent star-crossed lovers, goddess Tai Nui and mortal Kala. Intertwining into dual drops of extreme Gs and major blasts of water, riders drop simultaneously from the top of Krakatau Volcano with paths that cross several times — but I’ve heard the green goddess’s slide is even more intense than the mortal-turned-moon Kala’s blue ride.

Deep Water Dive, 121ft — Hurricane Bay at Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, KY 

Nothing but a hasty “3, 2, 1” prepares water slide daredevils for a 12+ story drop at a near-vertical 70-degree screaming whir of a 377-foot wild ride on this solo body slide. A see-through trap door platform tempts riders to peek, amping up the adrenaline and psychological thrill.

Summit Plummet, 120ft — Walt Disney World's Blizzard Beach in Orlando, FL 

There’s nothing like dropping blindly through a dark tunnel down 12 stories of belly-tightening blazing speed into a wild spray of whitewater. It will have thrill-seekers hoping for another “snow day” at Blizzard Beach — once they’ve recovered from their first run on the 360-foot-long stunner, of course.

Kilimanjaro, 164ft — Aldeia das Aguas Park Resort in Brazil 

Named for the imposing Tanzanian mountain, this monumental water slide attraction towers at an impressive 163+ feet, sending sliders down a steep 60-degree slope at over 62 miles per hour. 

Insano Body Slide, 135ft — Beach Park in Aquiraz, Brazil 

Brave riders zoom from zero to over 60mph in a mere five seconds. Regain your sanity and catch your breath in the six-foot deep pool the slide empties into. 

Meteor, 131ft — Wet N Wild, São Paulo, Brazil 

Riders on this wild water ride might feel like they survived the Big Bang after a whirl on the 13-story high capsule slide, where you’ll face a 70-degree near-vertical drop, which simulates a 60mph free fall. 

The Abyss, 105ft —  Aquafan In Tigre, Argentina 

Free fall in love with this 105ft drop slide, which sends slippery sliders down into the abyss with enough spins and hops at 60+ mph to give a sense of scuba-level weightlessness. 

Xpirado, 105ft — Hot Park In Rio Quente, Brazil 

If the prospect of a 105ft watery thrill ride didn’t get your heart beating fast enough, this ride sends you strolling through a haunted abandoned fishing village plagued by murderous piranhas before you even get your toes wet. Toes, incidentally, will need to be placed between the blood-covered sharp teeth of said piranha to board the twist and spin and drop-filled body slide.
